It can be quite a demanding job running a mobile disco, trust me I have done it for many years. With DJ software getting more common, cheaper and easier to use, it is getting harder to choose the right package. There are a number of factors to take into consideration when choosing your digital DJ software and I will briefly guide you through the reasons that helped me choose the appropriate digital DJ software package – whether I am doing a wedding or a 21st birthday party.
o Ease of use, simplicity of design – When you are out on the road DJing you can be working at quite a fast tempo, choosing records, taking request keeping an eye on the dance floor. Because of these factors I rate ease of use and simplicity of design very highly. It is important for me to be confident in the system I am using, and that confidence comes from a simple design that doesn’t overload me with features I don’t want or am not going to use.
o A track library that is easy to navigate – This is directly related to my first point. I want to be able to find the track I need and I need to be able to find it fast. Gone are the days of not being able to find the song I need as its on Now 34, or Now 36, or was it Now 26? Less time spent searching gives you more time to study the dance floor and decide which song will be best.
o Auto play – A good auto play system was important to me also. Over the years I have done a number of weddings and often they need a DJ throughout the afternoon and evening. With an auto play facility I am able to leave the system running on its own in the afternoon with a set playlist. Just don’t wander too far away!
o Beat Matching, loop control, BPM detection – When I do an 18th or 21st birthday party I know the clientele is going to be very different from that of a 60th birthday. At one of these parties it is important to be current and I needed a DJ software package that delivered on the features that were relevant for mixing. The digital DJ software package offers the features I need without filling my screen up with needless features that I will only use once in a blue moon.
When you have taken into consideration all the specifications that are going to be right for you and the kind of parties you DJ at it is then time to make that leap into the digital age. I think that it also important to point out that a lot of the companies that offer this kind of digital DJ software often provide downloadable trial versions so you can try before you buy.
